ATALAIA
A Atalaia, together with O Areal, is one of the oldest neigborhoods in Malpica, together with the A Plancha hill. The name A Atalaia refers to a high place from which to keep watch on the surrounding area.
To visit A Atalaia, from the Praza do Cruceiro, looking for the path between the houses, while keeping the sea to your right, you will find several viewpoints. The harbour views from A Atalaia are exceptional. O Bufadoiro gives you a good overview of the Artabrian Gulf, and from the next viewpoint, O Picote da Atalaia, you can admire the whole Artabrian Gulf and the Sisargas Islands.
The narrow path surrounding A Atalaia (an undeveloped area) reaches up to the A Cerca viewpoint, overlooking the Sisargas and Area Maior and Canido beaches. The beginning of this trail is not signposted, so you might want to ask the neighbours for directions. Views of the breathtaking cliffs, the Sisargas and the coastline will keep you company up until the cape of Saint Adrian.
